Martin Jacob is a young aspiring designer. He was born in Schwerin, Germany, and had graduated in 2013 from Massachusetts College of Art and Design with a BFA in Industrial Design.

It all started with Legos. As a child he found himself using Legos to create new and unique designs for cars, characters, and functioning robots with the help of Legos Mindstorms. Legos had their limitations though; the pieces were square with fixed sizes. To truly bring the ideas to life, and being a little older, he moved his design platform to paper and later to CAD. He continued to build this skill all throughout his schooling and made the decision to pursue Industrial Design at a Massachusetts College of Art and Design.

In August of 2012, he was awarded a Special Mention in the student category of the BraunPrize 2012 competition. His concept, “the Executive” was part of the exhibition at Braun headquarters in Kronberg, Germany. In 2013, he was recognized by Massachusetts College of Art and Design for his design innovations by being awarded the Dick Keohan Design Innovation Award 2013. His work has also been published in two books: “BraunPrize 2012: Genius design for a better everyday” and Ernst Shaefer’s medical textbook, “High Density Lipoproteins, Dyslipidemia, and Coronary Heart Disease.”

During his years at the college and internships, he has gained experience in designing products ranging from electric appliances, furniture, footwear, outdoor apparel, to packaging for various consumer products. Many of these projects have included working as part of a team to create innovative solutions to design problems for tight deadlines. He has also had access to a variety of studio electives including an assortment of unique drawing classes along with metal and woodworking classes; all of which he has been able to incorporate into his design and model making practice.
